Book Reviews
"Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested." -Francis Bacon
Below are a few of our favorites in the investment field for your digestion. The link brings you to Amazon.
- The Future for Investors by Jeremy J. Siegel. Written by the Wharton Professor (and founder of the Wisdomtree Funds). This books does an excellent job explaining the importance of dividends in providing superior investment returns. It also discusses the value of incorporating international stocks into an investor’s portfolio.
- The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham by Benjamin Graham. Everybody mentions this book and for good reason. Timeless approach and tools from the founder of modern securities analysis. As relevant today as it was in the 1940’s when it was first written.
- The Single Best Investment by Lowell Miller. This book presents a strong case for investing in the stocks of companies with growing dividends. Written from the vantage point of a practitioner.
- Margin of Safety by Seth Klarman. Out of print book by a phenomenal investor. Seth Klarman’s Baupost Group has reportedly generated very high returns over many years while emphasizing risk avoidance in its stock selection. (If you are really nice to Jim he might lend you his copy.)
- The Money Masters and The New Money Masters by John Train. These two books provide short biographies on many of the great investors like Ben Graham, Warren Buffett, Phil Fisher and Peter Lynch, George Soros, John Neff and many others. Excellent way to get some historical perspective on investing.
